AI Material Generator (beta)

Material creation has never been easier thanks to the new AI Material Generator available in Chaos Cosmos. With this new powerful feature, you can upload a photo of a real-world surface, and turn it into a render-ready PBR material with all necessary maps in just a few clicks. It’s ideal for secondary materials that don’t need extensive art direction, allowing you to fill out environments and interior spaces quickly, without sacrificing believability, and without the need for third-party tools.

Bring the night to light.

Night Sky (Stars)

Create realistic and astronomically precise night skies with ease. Achieve unparalleled realism in night scenes with accurate positions and light intensity of the stars, the Moon and its phases, and the Milky Way. Depending on your project requirements, you can set the night sky elements based on real-world settings such as date, time and geo-location or by adjusting individual elements.

Present, collaborate and render on the Cloud.

Chaos Cloud 3D Streaming (beta)

Now your clients and colleagues can browse your scenes and provide feedback remotely, without any technical limitations, thanks to the new 3D streaming service in Chaos Cloud. Simply upload your 3D models on Chaos Cloud and share a URL with stakeholders, allowing them to navigate and explore your scenes in the highest possible quality even on phones or tablets - no special hardware, software, or technical skills required. Viewers can place pins and leave comments directly within the 3D model, enabling centralized communication and easy follow-up. This service is currently in beta, with more powerful features on the way. All Chaos users are welcome to try it out and share feedback in the dedicated forum.

Faster & cheaper Chaos Cloud GPU rendering

Chaos Cloud GPU rendering is now significantly faster and more cost-efficient, thanks to a major infrastructure upgrade. Recent improvements deliver substantially quicker render times and reduced costs for both stills and animations. These performance gains are powered by next-generation hardware and optimized RTX rendering. Additionally, Chaos Cloud is now upgraded to 24 GB of GPU memory for rendering larger scenes.

Fine artistic control.

Gaussian Splats clipping

Gaussian splats just got better with a new clipping functionality. You can now trim your 3D splats directly in 3ds Max, cutting away any unwanted parts with ease. Replace them with 3D models that blend in perfectly – ideal for fast scene creation and refinement.

Scatter Clustering

Achieve the desired look of your renders faster than ever, thanks to Scatter’s new Clusters, which allow you to group various scattered objects. Scatter Clustering comes in three modes: Generate mode creates clusters based on noise calculations; Color map mode allows you to choose which objects should appear within the different colors of your map; and Layer paint mode helps define which objects belong to a particular layer and paint those layers directly into 3ds Max.

New controls in Exposure layer

Adjusting the Exposure layer in the V-Ray Frame Buffer has become even more intuitive with the new controls of light tones, dark tones, and shadows.

Better workflows for optimal results.

v-ray7-3dsmax-up2-feature-multi-import.png
Multi-import from Chaos Cosmos

For a smoother workflow and faster design process, you can now import multiple assets from Chaos Cosmos.

v-ray7-3dsmax-up2-feature-light-mix.png
256 Unique light selects in LightMix

Have full control over complex scenes with extended support for up to 256 unique light selects in LightMix. With a wider range of light selects you can control more light groups than ever before.

v-ray7-3dsmax-up2-feature-multisub.png
Mapping source in V-Ray Multisub Tex.

Enjoy a faster and more efficient material workflow by applying a mapping source (such as UVWRandomizer) to all the sub-maps in the MultisubTex. By checking the mapping source box, you get faster control over all sub textures and simpler tree structures in the Material editor.

v-ray7-3dsmax-up2-feature-multisub-column.png
Probability column in V-Ray Multisub Tex.

Create more texture variants with ease with the new Probability settings in V-Ray Multisub Tex. Change the probability of appearance of different textures and/or colors in the Multisub tex by increasing or decreasing the amount of a specific texture.

Power up your rendering.

v-ray7-3dsmax-upe-distributed-rendering.png
Distributed Rendering (DR) 2

The next generation of distributed rendering is here and it brings many speed and performance improvements. In DR 2, there are no longer limitations on how many machines can participate in the rendering process - the more machines you add, the faster rendering is. Progressive rendering assures better scaling with multiple machines.

Important: DR2 is available as a separate, stable build and can be downloaded here.

V-Ray GPU improvements

V-Ray GPU now supports Gaussian splats rendering, the new Night Sky, Material Select Render element and V-Ray Luminaire. It also brings improved GPU Caustics, including support for dispersion and better memory usage and performance.

And more.

v-ray7-3dsmax-up2-feature-denoiser.png
Denoiser workflow improvements

Denoising is now more efficient in our Standalone denoise tool (Vdenoise). Take advantage of lighter Raw image files thanks to the automatic removal of unnecessary render elements used for denoising. Another improvement is the option to remove the Denoiser extra data when saving Raw image files in V-Ray.

v-ray7-3dsmax-up2-feature-viewport.png
Optimized loading of scenes in the viewport

Heavy scenes with large numbers of VRayProxy objects now load significantly faster in the 3ds Max viewport, thanks to the new delayed loading feature. No more waiting for all objects to fully load—start making changes immediately while the VRayProxy objects continue loading in the background.

V-Ray two-sided texture

With the new VRay2SidedTex, you can easily assign different colors or maps to a surface based on the orientation of the normal (front face vs. back face). This is useful for backface culling when used in the Opacity slot. Or when assigning a printed design to the front of a label on a bottle, and plain paper to the back of the same label, which is visible through the glass of the bottle.

OpenPBR mode in VRayMtl

Achieve consistent shading results across applications with the OpenPBR standard. A new OpenPBR mode in the V-Ray Material introduces this shading model, which promises to boost production efficiency by reducing the need for manual adjustments when switching between compatible renderers and applications.

Extended options for Incl/Excl in VRayLight

Now, you can add or exclude objects in VRayLight not only by selecting them individually, but also via scene layers and by object IDs.
