Corona 12, update 2 brings Chaos Scans into Cosmos

Explore over 3,100 ultra-realistic scanned materials in Cosmos, auto-generate virtual tours, and enjoy sharper, more natural-looking renders.

Corona 12, update 2 is here! While this update focuses on technical enhancements, it also brings exciting new features that lay the foundation for what’s coming up in Corona 13. Let’s dive in.

Chaos Scans are now in Cosmos

Finding the perfect materials for your scene just got even easier. Corona users now have direct access to over 3,100 ultra-realistic scanned materials, seamlessly integrated into the Cosmos library. No more switching between platforms or manual imports—everything is in one place, ready to drag and drop straight into your scene. Premium users also have the added benefit of editing these scanned materials, offering full control to tailor them exactly to project needs.

The Chaos Scans materials span a wide range of categories like metal, leather, paper, plastic, and rubber, including 380+ brand-new additions. And because they’re Cosmos assets, you can now import multiple materials at once to speed things up even more.

As a bonus, the library includes high-end scanned materials from trusted names in luxury packaging and design, such as Eska, Winter & Co, Foilco, and premium leather textures from Foglizzo.

Chaos Scans are awesome materials that respond to light in ways you can't achieve by using bitmaps in other materials. Those are now easy to find and import as they are right there in Cosmos - plus, there are 200 new archviz-focused Scans being added too!

Precise camera control

The new Per-Camera Global Volume override (in Corona for 3ds Max and soon in Corona for Cinema 4D) lets you set different global volume settings for each camera, giving you creative freedom to experiment with fog, underwater haze, and other volumetric effects per camera, allowing you to craft distinct moods and atmospheres from various angles.

Differential Ray Filtering

This improves texture filtering (reduces blurring) when the texture is seen through reflection/refraction, and directly visible textures in fisheye, spherical, and other similar projection cameras. It is enabled by default in new scenes, while existing scenes have it turned off and should show a message to prompt whether you want to switch to the new filtering. This feature has been developed as it is a requirement for Toon Shading in Corona 13.

Improved DOF for more real-world scenarios

Improvements to depth of field continue to be made, with the new DOF Highlight Solver offering reflected highlights and some refracted highlights that now behave more naturally and can be applied in even more scenarios, making your scenes more consistent and visually compelling.

A fresh batch of community-contributed LUTs

This update includes amazing new LUTs created by our community artist, Iraban Dutta. Explore them in your Corona LUT folder, and play around with cinematic, stylized, or natural tones to create powerful moods.

Speed and compatibility improvements

You’ll be happy to know that we’ve prioritized performance and compatibility in this update, making your workflow faster and smoother.

In Corona for 3ds Max, you can enjoy faster timeline scrubbing with smarter parsing when IR is enabled, only updating changed parts of the scene (this change has been made in support of rendering via Vantage using Live Link in Corona 13). We’ve added support for 3ds Max 2026, and the Vantage Live Link now has a start/stop button as well as a new progress bar to easily let you track upload progress.

In Corona for Cinema 4D, you will navigate more easily with a new Minimap in the Node Material Editor. To add to that, the Corona Converter now supports more V-Ray materials and objects, including V-Ray Clipper, V-Ray Triplanar, V-Ray Two-Sided material, V-Ray Blend material, V-Ray Geometry tag, V-Ray Proxy, V-Ray Decal, and V-Ray Enmesh.

Support for Anima 6

Bring your visualizations to life with support for Anima 6 in Corona. Populate your scenes with realistic animated people and vehicles, both with improved behavior—lifelike human movement and instant vehicle paths with wheel spin that follow traffic rules and respond to the terrain.

A centralized downloads section

All Corona versions are now available in the Downloads section on My Chaos. This change reflects our ongoing mission to streamline how you access and manage your tools.

Additional smaller improvements in Corona 12 Update 2

General

(3ds Max)

  • Added support for Max 2026.
  • Corona now detects 3ds Max environment effects and provides an option to delete them.
  • Opening a scene which references assets from the material library, LUT presets or IES presets now automatically corrects path when the location of presets changed (e.g. when moving scene between macOS and Windows, or due to change of installation root as mentioned under ‘Installation Changes’).

(Cinema 4D)

  • The Cosmos dialog can now be docked in the Cinema 4D UI.
  • Help dialog can now be docked in Cinema 4D UI also on Windows.
  • Removed usage of temporary files when rendering via TR to avoid potential issues with disk space.

Vantage

(3ds Max and Cinema 4D)

  • Improved how fast Live Link can be cancelled.
  • Vantage export / Live Link now supports light visibility in reflections.

VFB

(3ds Max and Cinema 4D)

  • VFB scrollbars are now brighter for better visibility.
  • VFB history item thumbnails now update when edited.
  • Enabled toggling of Tone mapping operators by clicking on their label (but only if they are not collapsible; if they are collapsible, then those are collapsed/expanded as before).
  • In LightMix, the toolbar and source element labels are locked and only the layers are scrolled.
  • Curves histogram tooltip displays "Histogram type" instead of "Histogram kind".
  • Added label saying where to find histogram controls to Curve editor in pop out Tone mapping menu.
  • Added missing tooltips to VFB's Auto adjustment properties.
  • Added option to reset all curves.
  • Region Draw in the VFB is now enabled when editing a CXR, but only when the edited CXR is of the same size as current/last rendering (matching the resolution is necessary for Resume Render, which is what the Region Draw would be for).

Materials

(3ds Max and Cinema 4D)

  • Added 'Only unsupported' option to Material override to override only unsupported materials.
  • Added mix alpha option to CoronaMix map.
  • Added checkbox for clamping/enabling negative values. LUTs and Curves now pass channels with negative values and modify channels with nonnegative values.

Collaboration

(3ds Max and Cinema 4D)

  • Image uploaded from history item keeps the item's name.

Rendering

(3ds Max and Cinema 4D)

  • Added the possibility to apply Bloom&Glare on the alpha render element. This is enabled by default in new scenes, but kept disabled in old scenes.
  • Added support of Intel Denoiser for Blackwell (NVIDIA 50-series) GPUs on Windows..

Installation Changes

(3ds Max and Cinema 4D)

  • Changed installation root (on Windows) from 'C:\Program Files\Corona' to 'C:\Program Files\Chaos\Corona'.
  • Added dialog with Chaos account information (opened from System > About Chaos Corona/Licensing in Max, or in the Corona > About dialog in C4D).
  • Minor changes in the UI for data usage in Preferences.
  • Updated Cosmos service to 2025.04.04-531585
  • Updated Chaos License server to 6.2.1

(Cinema 4D)

  • It is now possible to manually release interface license for Corona from About dialog.
  • Added help links to many C4D error messages.
  • Minor changes in the About dialog.
