Corona 13 is a community-driven release. We've focused on adding some of the most requested features, such as new artistic choices and new rendering options, and we’ve included AI that was created to work alongside traditional rendering, rather than trying to replace it. Corona users are some of the most creative people in all of archviz, and today’s new features will give them new tools that let them work smarter and with more freedom to meet the specific needs of their clients.

Toon shading and outlines for stylized renders
The wait is over! This feature request has come directly from the Corona community, and we’re very happy to be shipping it with Corona 13. Have fun and create cartoon-style and non-photorealistic renders with Corona’s new Toon and Outline materials. Whether you want to present early concepts or just add an artistic touch, you’ll have full control to apply toon shading, outlines, or both to your entire scene or selected objects.

GPU-accelerated animation rendering via Vantage
Another highly requested feature from the community, now you can speed up animation rendering by using Corona and Vantage Live Link. Particularly useful for creating quick drafts and tests, or final versions. Take your animations built in 3ds Max and Cinema 4D, and benefit from the fast GPU rendering speed of Chaos Vantage.

New ArchViz Collection: Corona edition

AI-enhanced images
AI image enhancement has arrived in Corona 13, making it easier than ever to polish your renders. Just upload your image to the cloud, and with one click, the Chaos AI Enhancer will instantly improve the appearance of people and vegetation assets in your scene.

Firefly removal
To reduce or remove bright pixels (fireflies) from your scenes and animations, check out the new firefly removal options in the render settings. Simple mode detects and removes all fireflies, while Advanced mode maintains the specular highlights you want to keep in your scene.

Group objects with Scatter Clusters
With Scatter’s new clusters, you can group various scattered objects for scene refinement and scenario testing.
- Generate mode creates clusters based on noise calculations.
- Color map mode allows you to choose which objects should appear within the different colors of your map.
- Layer paint mode helps define which objects belong to a particular layer and paint those layers directly into 3ds Max (coming soon for Corona for Cinema 4D).

Rainbow effects with the Thin Film layer
This is a nice little effect. Add a touch of iridescence with the new Thin Film layer which makes it easy to create realistic rainbow effects on oily surfaces, bubbles, anodized metal, dichroic glass, and more. Just tweak the Thin Film parameters in the Corona Physical Material and you’re good to go.

Cosmos asset variations (initial support)
Browse asset variations in the Chaos Cosmos library to find the perfect fit for your scene. Initial support includes selected 3D people and vegetation assets, with options like summer or autumn leaf colors and different clothing styles to match your project’s look and feel.
.vrscene import from Enscape (initial implementation)
Import a .vrscene from Enscape and use Corona as your photoreal rendering engine. This enables smoother collaboration and easier file exchange between tools. In this initial implementation, V-Ray must be installed (any license will work and an active license is not required).

Frequently asked questions
1. Does Corona 13 include AI features?
Yes. Corona 13 includes the Chaos AI Enhancer, which uses smart image upscaling to improve people and vegetation assets in your render. It’s fast, cloud-based, and works with just one click, so it’s perfect for speeding up post-production.
2. Can I use GPU rendering with Corona 13?
Yes. While Corona is still CPU-based, you can speed up animations by using GPU rendering through Chaos Vantage and the new Live Link feature.
3. Is Corona 13 compatible with Enscape?
Yes. You can bring Enscape projects into Corona via the .vrscene format using V-Ray (this is an initial implementation). This streamlines your workflow across tools and is the first step in providing tighter Enscape-Corona compatibility.
4. How do I get Corona 13?
If you’re an existing customer, you can download it from the Chaos website at https://my.chaos.com/download/. If you’re new to Corona and would like to give it a try, we offer a 30-day free trial.
