Chaos Sessions Agenda | July 21, 2026

Chaos Sessions Agenda | July 21, 2026 Location: West Building – Room 511C

Session 1 | 10:00 – 10:50 AM

Ray-Traced Gaussian Splats in Production: The June July Pipeline

  • Chris Nichols (Director Special Projects at Chaos Lab, Chaos)

Building on the VidViz workflow introduced at SIGGRAPH 2025, this talk documents the next phase of the June July virtual production pipeline. We describe how VidViz planning tools informed the live-action shoot, and how captured location data was transformed into an HDR Gaussian splat using a combination of the XGrids scanner and the Arri Alexa 35. We detail the process of integrating that asset into Chaos Arena and the advantages of working with ray-traced splats in a flexible, real-time stage environment.

Session 2 | 11:00 – 11:50 AM

What's the latest at Chaos? Realtime, world-building, Gaussian splats and artist-friendly AI meet together

  • Vladimir Koylazov (Head of Innovation, Chaos)

In this talk we will explore the latest additions to the Chaos M&E products including V-Ray for Houdini, Maya, 3ds Max and Blender, as well as Vantage and Arena.

Session 3 | 1:00 – 1:50 PM

Rendering The Wizard of Oz at Sphere: V-Ray at 16K Scale

  • Sean Willis (Senior Technical Artist, Crafty Apes)

Rendering techniques for effectively handling massive Maya and V-Ray scenes at extreme resolutions, as used on projects like The Wizard of Oz at Sphere. Learn the optimizations, workflows, customizations, and rendering strategies required to maximize hardware performance and leverage V-Ray's capabilities when delivering large-scale feature film and immersive entertainment projects.

Session 4 | 2:00 – 2:50 PM

From Game Engine to Production Engine

  • Ivan Reel (Director, Business Development., Strada XR)

For many virtual production facilities, game engines became the foundation upon which modern LED volume workflows were built. This session shares StradaXR’s perspective on that journey and examines emerging approaches that seek to reduce workflow complexity, preserve creative intent, and bring production-ready content closer to the stage.

Session 5 | 3:00 – 3:50 PM

Cloud Arena: Bringing Real-Time Ray-Traced Virtual Production to the Global Cloud

  • Eric Pinkel (Cloud Virtual Production Specialist - CenterGrid)

Eric Pinkel will present Cloud Arena, a collaborative research initiative exploring how real-time ray-traced Virtual Production workflows can be deployed across globally distributed cloud infrastructure. Using CenterGrid VFX Datacenter and Chaos Arena, the team successfully validated cloud-hosted rendering, cloud-hosted Arena services, and international operator workflows.

Session 6 | 4:00 – 4:50 PM

To Be Announced

  • Digital Domain (TBD)

More details regarding this session's topic and speakers will be revealed soon.
